September 26, 2009 — Despite my still recovering stomach and the windy (and rainy) weather, we set out to go to Adamson University for the 3-hour (gasp!) long seminar. We were able to arrive, just in time for the 8:30 start in the morning. We did not begin right away though. We waited for one of our companion speakers before we began. Turned out that he realized that he left his USB (read: his slides) when he was half-way to his way to Adamson. He then had to go back and get his slides, and then travel again back to Adamson. By the time he got in, it was already 9:30 (and I already got to eat my breakfast, yey!). We then started with our talks in our respective classrooms. We’re covering Zembly, JavaFX and Linux. Another speaker that we did not know will be discussing SAP.

Meeting with Mozilla
Evening of September 18 — Went out for a dinner with Mozilla Campus Reps from the area. The dinner was initiated by Gen of the Mozilla Foundation who was coming over to Manila with Seth for their pitch in WordCamp Philippines the next day.
Some of the topics that were discussed during dinner was :
- Traffic in Metro Manila
- State of Firefox growth in the Philippines and what is driving it
- Will a localized (we read it as: translated) version of Firefox gain traction?
- Incoming improvements to the browser
- What we can do to jump start a Mozilla community in the Philippines
- How Gen lives his life in Japan as a “big guy” (as Ren Ren put it)
- How Pacquio has risen to celebrity icon status in the US
Open Movie Projects
Last September 19, UnPLUG was in-charge of the film showing at the SFD celebration at UST. There we showed Big Buck Bunny and Elephant’s Dream (yes, in that order) as examples of Free and Open Source Movies (FOSM?).
I checked out the Blender Foundation’s site and it seems that there is another Open Movie project in the making (codenamed Durian). In fact, it is already done and passed to the Dutch Film Festival just two days ago. No title was released yet and will be saved as a surprise for the Blender conference.

Software Freedom Day 2009
There were 2 major celebrations for Software Freedom Day in the Philippines last September 19. One was in the NCC and the other was in UST. As much as I wanted to be in all of the venues, I had to pick one. Actually, I did not really have a choice. I needed to be at UST because I gave the routine FOSS talk. Oddly enough, I did not feel nervous giving the talk. In fact, I think I did okay. Audience rapport was good and I can tell they were listening.
Of being a student and a learner
Someone over at my timeline at Plurk said that our professors in DCS are becoming incompetent. Of course, that was not said straightforwardly, but that was the gist. It was hypocritical.
